Strange thing is perception ... and it applies to the weather very well.

So far July would be classed as poor (I've heard plenty say so) with rain being frequent, little sun and no warmth.

so yes, we have not had the sun and warmth (about 1.0c below at present), but we have had a few good days .... but not the rain.

After the 12th I would have expected 41.0 mm of rain - but have only had 18.8 mm - so only 46% - but everyone tells me how et it has been!

As I say, perceptions

Interesting, some of the forums I glance at had been banging on about what a glorious summer it had been, yet for me up here average to below average, certainly temps wise

Perhaps its time for a mid season assessment from us all, rainfall and temperature compared with your means/averages

Away on holiday and today the weather is Grim!
I seem to recall that at half way I was running at 14.3c which is 0.5c below and rainfall was around 34-35mm when I left on Friday (21st) which would be about 35%.
However, Saturday put down an inch so that total is creeping up.

In a sign of how wet the July's of the last 10 years have been, this year I will just about struggle up to average rainfall, whilst though with longer 20-30 yr records will no doubt be in excess.

My average for 2007-16 is 105.9 mm and I am currently on 102.3 mm with a day to go.

Average rainfall at Newton Rigg (1981-2010) is 70.2 mm but for the same period of 2007-16 is 97.3 mm.

some other July averages for Newton Rigg:

1980's = 69.9 mm
1990's = 58.4 mm
2000's = 82.6 mm
2010's = 75.9 mm
21st Century = 79.8 mm

so in that 30yr period no single decade as overly bucked the trend (although this current decade is on course), but since 2007, 8 of 10 have all been wetter than average and one of those that wasn't was only just drier.
