There is also http://nsidc.org/arcticseaicenews/ which gives information on polar ice caps.

Not the best of seasons with little widespread ice and snow coverage, despite a good start. Its all down hill from now until late August :D

Current Ice situation - cant see any northwest passage or Russian route as yet - still has a month before it starts to increase

Isnt that the case of last few autumns, there's been some reasonable ealry snowfalls with much excitement, but it never gets anywhere near us come mid-winter?

Keep the analysis coming Paul, very interesting topic and photos, I liked the one on the 15th January which clearly showed the lying snow over Cumbria, let's hope it will not be as rare next winter!
