I am a bit of a winter fan, so my eyes from now on often turn to this website

http://www.natice.noaa.gov/pub/ims/ims_ ... europe.gif

It shows where the ice and snow is, hopefully in the next few weeks the yellow area will start to grow. I have noticed today there is a new white section appeared in Siberia, perhaps there first snowfall of the season ?

I appreciate this thread may be very boring, but its keeping me amused and a way of saving previous images

Today there are 3 areas of interest - some snowfall over Alsaka, melting of previous fall in Siberia and in red the last section of ice connecting Russia with the Arctic - I will be keeping eye on them. I have no knowledge about how it all works or its significance and I doubt it has any bearing on our weather at all

Paul

is there any reason why topics in the "Everything Else" section don't appear under the "active topics" area that you can click on from the index page?

Only just found this for the reason above, is it possible to either make "everything else" appear in active topics, or move this advancing ice thread into say an autumn discussion section so when there is a new post, it will appear in active topics

i don't know about others but i usually use the "view active topics" button to see whats been posted, and of course i have missed out on this and other everything else stuff totally and only find it some time later by chance

cheers

I click on 'View new posts'
Then within a topic 'First unread post'

I think I pick up on everything that way.

4TH September - fresh snowfall over parts of Alsaka - no real sign that I can tell of the Polar Ice cap expanding

I need to find an image from last year to compare
