apparently Thwaites is still alive, but in his 90's.
He apparently recorded a temp' of -16.0c (don't know date/year) and ended up on radio/tv and then stopped recording.
Will try to find out more.

To my web-site I recently added 'DAILY OBSERVATIONS' - you may have seen it.
In this bit I include the grass min, a brief bit about yesterdays weather and todays current weather.
when we had all the snow I included the current depth and successive days of laying snow, but when the snow went, what to replace it with, if anything?

I thought that after having seen the few bits on here that I would add a few 'Cumbrian records' and have had on there for the last week the record for coldest Cumbrian temp'.
at some point i will change this to warmest, etc.

However, do any of you have any authenticated 'records' or just items that are interesting - a basic one liner. It would be something of interest to teh group and if you didn't mind I would add them to my page.

Other than that does anyone know things such as most ppt in a day/month/year - driest month/year - you get the idea.

thanks

Good idea Darren, I just saw the cumbrian record on your site. The record rainfall last year springs to mind as a good one to add sometime - was Ambleside an old met office site, or just a bloke with a thermometer?

Sorry I've been absent from the board for a while - was in finland, amazing place - took my digi thermometer with me and recorded a bone chilling -26.2C and had windchills down around -40C, a real experience!

Cheers,

Mike
