Thunderstorm Activity

Post by Paul C » Thu Jun 24, 2010 10:55 am

There has been a lack of thunderstorm activity this year. TO date I have not recorded hearing any thunder at all this year.
May,June,July and August are my favoured months with an average of 1.6 thunder days ( Met Office Estimates for Brampton) but nothing reported so far.

Having previously lived in Thunderstorm alley (near Hull) I really miss the excitement of thunderstorms here. Hardly ever notice any thunder.

I heard one clap of thunder on 14th, that's all, although my internal detector (headache!) said there was thunder around.

Strange experience recently in the Shetland Isles - we went for the 1st week of July - the first night had a big thunderstorm :o . The locals said they have quite a lot. I was very surprised. So with the thunder and the dawn chorus at 2.30am - not much sleep on that night!
