DROUGHTS + DRY SPELLS

Post by darrog » Wed Apr 20, 2011 10:58 am

what is it about April (and usually May as well)?
This time last year was in a Dry spell that just then sneaked in as a Partial drought and now today will see the 15th consecutive day not to record 1.0mm

DRY SPELL we have now
Hosepipe ban to follow
June/July rainfall to = 300mm+ and hospipe ban not lifted because it fell at the wrong time and in the wrong places.

All so predictable.

It's well documented that warm sunny dry April are followed generally by poor summers. 2003 and 1984 probable exceptions.

Still I expect the fine weather to continue for May, then to start going downhill in June.

lets hope to add 2011 to the list of exceptions, i can also think of 1990, 1995, 1997, 1999,plus 1933,1955 and most notably 1949 that gave reasonably good to brilliant summers from a warm spell/dry april, so im more optimistic about this summer, especially considering the last 4 years string of wet/dull/cool julys and augusts.
