Weather Warning Survey !!

Post by Paul C » Sat Jul 09, 2011 7:39 pm

If possible I thought it may be good to compare what weather we actually get when a weather warning was/is in place.

Yesterday a warning was in place for 30mm of rain - I managed 2mm

Today no weather warning, managed a good storm and record rainfall rates

( admittidly there was a warning in place further north, but we must be correct on these things and Cumbria was out of the area)

I will try and copy the warnings/advisories and then perhaps you can add your weather the following day to compare. if the data is solid enough I may send it off to the Met Office for their information. I am not hear to slag them off but as with most organisations these days must be prepared to accept findings and perhaps change their ways ?

Any thoughts :o

Attached is todays warning - updated 1700ish

good idea Paul - i can guess what their response might be though.
however, evidence is always key and the weight of evidence always prevails.
when the evidence is a bit thin I use other methods

Re 17th July .....

Scotby does not seem to be in the yellow area but we had 30mm rain including a rain rate of 174mm during the early afternoon. It was some of the heaviest rain I have seen - not at all surprised ti gathered somewhere ... in this case Great Corby.

YES I think we will put the 17th down as a failure !

I think Shap and Warcop got some rain yesterday but only around 15mm - so perhaps another failure ?

19mm recorded for this event - possibley agree with the weather "advisory" on this occassion - hasnt caused any problems in the area that I have heard about, but the council repairs on Irthing Bridge wil have been affected no doubt ! - They did issue a red warning late last night but that was for Scotland well away from Cumbria - Marks out of 10 for this about 6 - advisory could have been earlier rather than responding to what was seen on the radar ?
