MAY COLDER THAN MARCH!?

Post by darrog » Tue May 15, 2012 9:14 pm

surely this will not happen?

the diff' is still about -0.5c and surely the second half of the month will finally see May make up that 0.6c to be warmer than March.

So that does mean that the first half of May (approx' 7.2 / 7.3c) has been colder than March - how bizarre.

Looks like it will warm up, but it's still quite remarkeable. Certianly very little progression to warmer weather this spring. Maybe we'll suddenly lurch unto summer - remember 1991, a cold miserable June then in a metter of days things changed with warmer air from the east and there after a good summer (lasting into autumn).

March mean 8.3c
May mean 7.9c (so far)

Can't imagine May being cooler than March, has it ever happened?

Until this year I had only had ONE April which was colder than March (1989).

Surely we can't have May colder too! I've been kidding people that the warm day in March could be the hottest day of the year. Hope I'm not proved correct!

May will be warmer than March - we all know that it will be.

at present May is 0.6c colder than March for myself.

Carl - has it ever happened before - that was my first thought as well - answer is, I don't know.

Looking at Newton Rigg since 1959 only 1996 at 7.9c is below 8c.
since 1996 only 2005 (9.9c) and 2010 (9.2c) have failed to attain 10c.

there was an 8.0c in 1975 and 8.4c in 1967 and and 8.2c in 1968.

Newton Riggs means for May are 1961-90 9.9c and 58.6 mm
and 1971-2000 10.2c and 54.9 mm

so as we all know, this May is going to be both cold and wet

I see the very latest GFS 15 day forecast paint a hot and sunny Bank Holiday weekend in store.

If it comes off, I reckon someone has made a weather machine and is just having a laugh with us now...
