Exceptional Warm Start to November

Post by darrog » Fri Nov 13, 2015 5:56 pm

I know that it has been wet and is going to get wetter, but so far the story of the month is its mildness.
Newton Rigg has a mean of 5.9c for November and at present it is running in the region of 10.4 - 10.5c.
By any measurement that is warm and especially when you compare it to the records for that site.

Since 1914 the lowest monthly mean temperature for November at Newton Rigg is 1.08c (1915), with the highest, 8.31 (2011)

So, potentially we could have the warmest November on record, certainly still a long way for it to drop before it falls below the record and after today the weather is becoming milder once again.

Monday night (9th) was my warmest November night on record (40 years)! 15 degrees registered at 21:45, 01:30 and 03:55.

I really do think that you are all missing the real story of November to date - how warm it is, not how wet.
This from the Met'O today

Early provisional figures* (1-15 November) show the first half of November has been very mild with maximum daily temperatures 3.8C above average for the UK
Central England Temperature data set shows the start to the month has been the second warmest since this record began in 1772.
Local temperature records have been broken at various stations with only November 1938 seeing a colder start to the month.
There has been an absence of frosts in almost all areas, largely because a humid south-westerly airflow means the weather has been cloudy and there have been very few clear nights.

Mr. Crabtree, that chart, to my untrained eye that would look like a 'Year to date' temperature chart!?

Now from the dark recesses of my mind I seem to re-call a discussion about such things and how you feigned some lack of knowledge or understanding of what it was/what I was referring to.

Quite a useful tool me thinks - now I just have to get you onto a 'Rolling Year' temperature - or have you suddenly knocked up a chart for that as well?

that is still 4c above average.

Haha

It sort of is YES - but I cant get the graph to show a daily figure hence the blue line finishes at the end of the month.

:D

Crabtree - there is no 'sort of' at all, it is a 'seems like you've been caught red handed old chap'.

what is more, you have gone even further than myself, I don't have some fancy chart to show it - well done.
