December was a record breaking month in almost every aspect; very mild and very wet. The mildest December in my 30 years of Scotby records, with an average maximum temperature of 11.2C. This is 4C above the normal December figure and 1.7C higher than the previous highest average maximum figure (1988 and 2013). We had the warmest December day in 30 years on the 19th with 15.9C. There was only one air frost with a minimum of -2.8C on the 13th. December was the windiest month of 2015.

The total rainfall for December was 257.4mm, by far the wettest December I have recorded (the average for December is 95.5mm). This was also the wettest month I have ever recorded in 30 years in Scotby. (Previous wettest month was November 2009 with 221.5mm). The wettest days were the 5th (38mm) and the 26th (37.4mm). Interestingly, these wettest days were by no means the wettest individual days I have recorded; the flooding happens when much higher totals fall on the higher ground. There were only 2 days with no rain at all.

Only 2.5 years of record kept so far, so can't really talk of any being broken.
