MM
the old meteorological definition of absolute drought (15 consecutive days with no measurable rain) may be imperfect but it still serves a purpose.

As of today MM is in a drought.

13 days for me so far, last rain was 20th 0.7mm

But have had numerous Trace days

Today will be another trace day

Why did they scrap the drought category ?

I don't think the 'dry spells' and absolute and partial drought have been scrapped, just super ceded.

An Hydrological drought is now the currency and I can see why.

Slight problem with the 'old' definitions was the fact it doesn't take into account something like this:

14 days of no rain and 30c and 16hrs of sun
0.2 mm on the 15th day
14 days of no rain
0.2 mm on the 15th (30th) day …. and so on.

Nor does it take into account the conditions prior to the first day of the drought, etc, etc
