December was a very mild but dry month. The average maximum temperature was 9.5C, which is 2.5C above the 30 year average for Scotby. This year, December was 1.6C warmer than November’s average maximum. This was the equal second warmest December after 2015 (equal with 2013). The warmest day was the 7th which reached 15.7C, very close to the record breaking warmest day during December 2015. The lowest temperature was -4C on the 5th but there was only a total of 4 air frosts, which is quite low for December.

The total rainfall for December was 58mm, slightly more than half the December normal and the 5th driest December in Scotby. This total was a huge 200mm less than 2015! The month was fairly dry until the 21st when a week of wet and blustery weather set in. A dry few days brought us to New Year’s Eve which was the wettest day of the month with 11mm. There was no snow in Scotby this December.
