No room at this time for a wet bulb to fit - 30,50,100cm soil thermometers I have retained but Met Office no longer accepting these readings.

Another disappointing month, September was cooler and much wetter than average. An average daily maximum of 17.3C was a little below the normal for September but the coolest since 2012 and 2013. The warmest day was the 26th with a high of 20.3C, one of only three days to reach more than 20C. This was the ‘coolest maximum’ for September since 2001. Night time temperatures were about normal, the coolest night was the 19th with a low of 2.3C.

The total rainfall for September was 115.2mm, much wetter than the average of 72mm. This was the third wettest September I have recorded in Scotby (wetter were 2012 and 2000). The high total of rain came from persistent, rather than torrential rain. Four days had over 10mm, the wettest was the 25th with 13.6mm. There were only six dry days during the month.

SEPTEMBER - The wettest September yet recorded at this site - also colder than average and along with July and August, continues a run of poor months. The lack of sunshine was notable and in turn there were was a lack of warm days and indeed this is the first September in my records that has failed to record 20°c. Rainfall was frequent, falling on 23 days, and come the month's end, the ground was saturated. Low Pressure was dominant during the month and whilst we avoided the impacts, we had the first named storm (Aileen) of the year. High pressure in the Atlantic caused a NW'ly flow during the 14-19th and under clear skies the 19th started with the first ground frost of the season.

Wettest yet recorded. MSLP was -3.8 Mb below average, rainfall 179.3% of the average for 2007-16 and the temp' 0.2°c below the long term average.

Rainfall totalled 139.5 mm (CR school 148.5 mm) - Mean Min' of 8.38°c - Mean Max' 15.75°c - with a highest maximum of 19.9°c (24th) and a lowest minimum of 0.6°c (19th).

There were no days of thunder, fog, etc - the 12th with 21.0 mm was the wettest day.

Mean max 16.6c -0.5c
Mean min 10.6c +0.8c
Mean 13.6c +0.1c
Rain 110.4 121%

So overall temperatures near normal - but largely sue to midl nights at the end of the month. Wettest since 2012.
