Last one for this year for Brampton

December 2017 - A dusting of snow on the 1st was all we could muster this month. Snow falling days showing 6 but in reality blink and you would have missed it. It was very wet over Christmas which up to then had been a dryish month. Overall mean temperatures lower than normal after a period of cold weather during the middle of the month.

December was a variable month with some very cold spells alternating with milder, wet days. Overall it was a colder than average December with an average maximum temperature of 6.9C, the coldest since 2012. The mildest day was the 7th with a high of 13.8. This was immediately followed by several very cold days with the coldest day on 11th having a maximum of -1.9C (an ‘ice day’). There were 15 air frosts during December, the most since 2010. The coldest night was the 11th with a minimum of -9.3C, the coldest night since December 2010. Christmas brought milder temperatures again but another cold spell followed before the end of the year.

The total rainfall for December was 92mm which is about average for December. It had been fairly dry, with only 40mm, until the 24th then Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day had a total of 40.4mm, the wettest day of the month being the 25th with 26.2mm. There was no snow in Scotby during December.
