August was a rather disappointing month in Scotby after the warm and dry previous summer months. The average maximum temperature was 19.8C which is slightly lower than the normal for August. The warmest day was the 5th with a maximum of 23.9C, not a particularly high temperature for August. Only half the days in August achieved a high above 20C. In contrast, many nights were quite warm and humid, although there were some cold nights at the end of the month. The lowest temperature was 4.9C on the 30th.

The total rainfall for August was 99mm, which is about 15mm more than the average August rainfall. 23 days had some rain and 14 of those had more than 2mm. The wettest day was the 12th with 17.2mm. The drought well and truly finished in Cumbria but many part of southern England were still experiencing hot and dry conditions.
