July 2019

Post by Anne » Sat Aug 03, 2019 12:00 pm

July was a warmer than average month but only the ninth warmest July in my Scotby records. The average daily maximum was 22.2C. From the 1st to the 22nd maximum temperatures were below 25C but on the 25th we had one very hot day with a high of 33.3C, which equals my all time Scotby record high. (July 2006 had the same highest temperature and also had three other days with highs over 30C and was the hottest July). At the start of the month nights were cool with a low of 5.6C on the 3rd but from the 9th to the end of the month nights were warmer, the warmest being the 23rd with a ‘low’ of 17.6C.

The total rainfall for Scotby in July was 119.9mm, which is above average but not exceptional. July is often a rather wet month and, true to form, we had thundery downpours near the end of the month with thunder heard on three days (24 to 26th). The first part of the month until the 17th was fairly dry but there was rain on most days from then until the end of the month. The wettest day was the 27th with 37mm in a full day of rain.
