It could be quite useful to have a list of Met Office stns down the years and the period in which they were operational. We know the present day stns (if not the date from which they commenced), I will post what I know soon.
This came about when I discovered that during the climatologic period of 1941-70 Cumbria did not have a single stn that was fully operational for the entire period. The nearest that we get is:
Ambleside - (1941-43) + (45-46) + (49-70)
Newton Rigg - (1941-47) + (51-70).
Can't blame it all the war?
