Maximum Thermometer readings

Post by rjd1000 » Thu Jun 16, 2016 11:58 pm

mine is now nearly always 0.2c above the ord thermometer is this normal?

could it be slight warming from your hand when resetting slightly raises the temperature 0.1c or so, therefore impossible sometimes to get them the same?

you aren't the only one.
assuming that you are talking about the time of obs and when you re-set them - firstly, no sucking eggs intended, read the DB then WB and then the Max' (leave the Min till last).
That should help, unless you are doing it that order anyway!

But make sure that when you the read the Max', bring it out the screen and read it when held vertically, to cancel out that 'slide' when putting it back into the screen.

Overly shouldn't be a problem apart from ice days in winter when it never gets any warmer after obs

yes its just the resetting part i usually have the 0.2c difference.

i have the order the same as you have said, but would read the max tipped at 45 degrees rather than vertical. i find my max thermom doesn't slide really unless you tip it deliberately downwards.
