Highest and Lowest temperatures - Monthly CUMBRIA

Post by Paul C » Tue Dec 29, 2015 8:30 pm

It maybe an impossible task without emails to the Met Office. But the recent warm December and exchange of emails with Darren got me thinking that we need a full list for each month of Maximimum and Minimum temperatures for Cumbria. I think there are a few already in the forum, but we really should be able to get a comprehensive list together. If you have any info please attach to this thread.

Example of the list

January - Max 14.1c Carlisle 12th January 1959
- Min -18.3c Newton Rigg 17th February 1910

Just been looking at the synoptics for these, I think that 1910 one is incorrect.

Need to do your research before making weather recorded up - or hope people don't look at historical charts at wetterzentrale! I ;)

List compiled from data sent by Met Office today - using data 1910 to present. They clearly state this is not a definitive list and other paper records still not digitised may have lower of higher values - but to be fare to them, its a good list and I have thanked them for their effort in such a short time. Its something we can start from at least and add to as data comes in.

Note Moor House is on the other side of Eastern side of Crossfell on the Cumbrian/ Durham border and is major research site. I have visited the location and is well worth a walk if in the area.

Darren - if you are looking, please let me know what you think.
