Wow, that's big! Maybe you could load it onto a separate device like a memory stick or stand alone hard drive and run it from there? I can see the benefit of being able to search it all in one go otherwise it would be tedious!

The size 2GB isnt an issue on my computer for storage, but I did wonder how the PC would cope searching through such a large file

I am still working on it now.

Re the driest location

Met Office have confirmed thats its OK to use the 1894 figure, straight from the book and they have confirmed this with their card record. Of course this raises another issue. Brampton Denton House is only a handful of stations in the book with monthly records. All the other Cumbrian stations are annual. So its feasible that several other locations may have been drier, its just fortunate that Brampton was published, guess we will never know

Rainfall Book project update

Now have all books downloaded, unfortunately my Pc was unable to merge into one large pdf. need more "ram" so will need to use my sons laptop at some stage

I have them in 3 sections

1864-1899
1900-1949
1959-1991

All work seperatley and searching is quick and easy.

If anyone wants them on a CD etc please let me know

Whilst a worthy discussion, a little removed from the driest September.

anyway, 6th - 20th, all days of no measurable rain (x3 had a trace) - in my book that makes 15 successive days and that = Absolute drought.

The 0.4mm I recorded on the 15th has ruined any chance of a drought on paper

I went 9 days with no rainfall and 1 TRACE
Then 6 Days with no rainfall and 3 x TRACE

Total Rain though is just 1.7mm

NEW CUMBRIAN RECORD FOR DRIEST SEPTEMBER

I know of a lady who records rainfall in Appleby - some of my articles have made use of her data and she is also an official site for the EA and by extension the Met'O.

Her September rainfall total is ..................... 7.3 mm

Now by the way, did the BBC give me an accreditation for the 1894 info' and if not why?

Great to know of a new record. If I had known about it I would have mentioned it to Mr Mooney. There was no accreditation, basically I wanted the glory myself, but thanks for the info
