January was rather a mild month, although I have recorded several milder Januarys. It was milder than both November and December 2019. The average daily maximum temperature was 8.9C, with several days having a high over 10C. The mildest day was the 7th with 13.5C. There were only three air frosts during January the coldest night being the 19th with a low of -3.5C.

The total rainfall for January was 80.2mm, which is slightly below the January normal. The second and last weeks were quite wet but with no particularly wet individual days. There was a settled, dry period from the 18th to the 26th when an area of very high pressure was over us. There were a couple of occasions when it was sleeting but there was no snow in Scotby during January.
